Drag Talon Buidlup

With our seat now mounted we moved along to the door bars. Again, another fairly straight forward piece, just a slight bit of toying around to get the correct angles for notching as the tube does not sit perpendicular.

At this point we took some time to drop the cage down and do some final welding to finish up all the fitting we had done. The boxes we built for the hoop worked very well for this! Once we had completed the welding we started to develop our plan of attack for the rear of the car. It was going to require some sort of support structure to tie in a parachute as well as to house a new fuel cell. Before we could get too far into it, we needed to cut out a section and see what we had to work with.

After taking a quick peak at what was there, we deemed it necessary to make a few more cuts, except this time we took some big chunks of frame rail along with it!

The next pieces we did were the two support bars for the main hoop. As per NHRA rules you are allowed to use 1.25"x0.058" 4130 tubing for this as opposed to the 1.62"x.083" 4130 tubing used throughout the majority of the cage. Howver being unable to source any locally we decided for the extra couple of grams we would just use what we had.
